One morning when I worked for the Executive VP of a large company, I arrived at my desk two hours early. As I had no outstanding work to do, I turned on my typewriter anyway, and let myself dream of England. A scene came to me of a beautiful young lady in the Cotswold Hills, living in a honey-colored mansion, with a looming problem. I began to write. The scene unfolded, and on I typed to capture it before I forgot.
Two hours later, when my boss breezed in, I had several pages of the story. I hid those, and worked on them during lunch whenever I could. Sometime later, when I worked in a different job, a friend and fellow secretary named Kay leaned over my shoulder as I wrote during what was normally our lunch hour. She was so curious. After I let her read several of my secret pages, she asked me what work I had to do that afternoon. I showed her. She grabbed it all, transferred my phone lines to hers, and whispered, "Give me more Raoul!" That's why I dedicated this book to my dear friend, Kay Nell Miller. (Author of Unable to Resist.)
